Through our partnership with Atomic Learning the Office of Instructional Technology is offering two online classes.


Classes:

Web 2.0 Workshop

Blogs, wikis, Webcasts, podcasts, RSS feeds, social networks . . . they're all a part of what has come to be known as Web 2.0. Workshop author Vicki Davis is a classroom teacher who has been recognized for her innovative classroom practices using Web 2.0. The Flat Classroom Project, which she coauthored, won ISTE's Award for Best Online Learning project for 2007, an Edublog Award for Best Wiki in education for 2006, and inclusion in the best selling book The World is Flat. Her Cool Cat Teacher Blog received an Edublog finalist award for Best Teacher Blog of 2006.

Protraxx Description:

Once participants enroll, they will receive a user name, password and directions to begin their course. Participants will go through this self paced course online. Prior to the conclusion of the course (4 weeks from when they received their registration information) participants will post to a discussion board, complete an evaluation, and share requested links to artifacts they constructed to support how they will use what they learned to enhance teaching and learning. To receive professional development hours for taking this workshop, participants must email OITtraining@schools.nyc.gov indicating they have completed all workshop modules, the evaluation, and participated in the discussion (including requested links). If upon review, all requirements are met, participants will receive a "completed" for taking the class.

Seven Steps to a Flat Classroom

In this workshop Vicki Davis, renowned for her innovative use of the Web in the classroom, explains the steps necessary to create a Flat Classroom. The Flat Classroom is the expansion of your classroom beyond the school walls to include global communities and different forms of communication like blogs and wikis.
